Tightly integrated design, advocacy, management and implementation
Poseidon Water Poseidon Water specializes in developing and financing water infrastructure projects, primarily seawater desalination and water treatment plants. Poseidon’s projects are implemented through innovative public-private partnerships that link private financing with the construction and operation of water supply and treatment projects.
After developing the Project for over 12 years, Poseidon selected a world-renowned construction team to build the plant and the 10-mile pipeline, and a team to operate the plant which began commercial operations at the end of 2015.
Construction Contractors The Plant and Pipeline was completed by Kiewit Shea Desalination (Kiewit Shea), a joint venture of Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. and J.F. Shea Construction Company. The Plant’s main process design (water pretreatment, reverse osmosis filtration, post-treatment and instrumentation and control systems) was integrated by sub-contractor, IDE Americas.
Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. Kiewit Infrastructure West Co.’s parent, Kiewit Corporation is a one of the largest infrastructure contractors in the U.S. with over 125 years of construction experience. Kiewit Infrastructure Co. is Kiewit’s largest operating subsidiary, performing construction services in the United States and Canada encompassing over half the parent’s work. Past experience includes large-scale and water supply projects, including pump-stations, pipelines, and water and wastewater treatment facilities. Kiewit Infrastructure West Co.’s past experience includes $240 million in work with SDCWA, along with other Southern California projects such as Bakersfield Wastewater Treatment Plant, South Bay Water Reclamation Plant, and a P1-102 Activated Sludge Treatment Facility. J.F. Shea J. F. Shea is a California-based construction company whose experience includes large scale projects, such Hoover Dam, Golden Gate Bridge, and San Francisco’s Bay Area Rapid Transit System. Past experience includes water supply projects similar to Kiewit, and pipeline works directly with SDCWA. Shea recently completed the world’s largest reverse osmosis wastewater to drinking water treatment plant with a 75 MDG capacity.
IDE Technologies The subcontractor, IDE Technologies has extensive experience developing engineering, producing and operating advanced desalination facilities, among other water and energy related projects. The firm has been in operation over 45 years as an Israeli state-owned enterprise to create advanced desalination technologies. The firm has researched and developed both thermal and reverse osmosis desalination technologies, with RO having been successfully deployed at scale in large and small scale operations. Currently there are about 400 IDE designed systems operating in 40 countries with a total capacity of about 528 MDG. The firm has large-scale international projects in India and China. In 2008, it completed the world’s largest multi-effect distillation technology desalination plant in Jamnagar, India. In 2009-2010, it first completed, and then expanded to double capacity at 52.8 MDG a thermal desalination plant in Tianjin, China, now the country’s largest desalination plant. IDE has completed some of the world’s largest RO desalination plants, including a 72.3 MDG plant in Ashkelon, Israel and a 91.8 MGD plant in Hadera, Israel. In 2010, the company was awarded a contract for a 108.5 MGD plant in Soreq, Israel. Much of the firm’s experience has been in Israel given its origin.
